ADAM & EVE.

To the most fundamental Christians, Muslims and Jews, they were a reality. Created by God in his own image, they were the first man and woman on Earth - the founders (God aside) of the human race. To others it is no more than a child's fairy story. Whatever it is, there certainly seems to be a deeper meaning spelt out symbolically.

One suggested explanation is thus:

The story of Adam & Eve symbolises the losing of one's innocence. For "innocence" in this case, one must read "virginity". In Hebrew, "Adam" means "man" and "Eve" means "woman". God represents the good nature of the human conscience and Satan (which means opposer) represents the bad. The fruit of the tree of knowledge was an apple. This was the symbol of something desirable which, against the advice of the "good nature" of her conscience, the woman was persuaded by the serpent (a lowly creature) to tempt the man to taste what was good. This in actual fact was sex. A portrayal of a woman seducing a man. The so called Tree of Knowledge did indeed open their eyes to something which was always there but they were never aware of. The act of losing one's virginity is the crossing of the boundary between childhood innocence and adulthood, never to be undone.
